DEVELOPING DIGITAL LITERACY SKILLS THROUGH ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION

In the era of digital transformation, digital literacy has become an essential competency for learners to participate effectively in academic, professional, and social environments. Educational institutions are increasingly expected to equip students with the skills necessary to access, evaluate, create, and communicate information through digital technologies. English language education offers a unique platform for the development of digital literacy skills, as learners regularly engage with authentic online resources, digital communication tools, and technology-enhanced learning environments. This article explores the role of English language education in fostering digital literacy skills among learners. It examines the interrelationship between language learning and digital competence, highlights the benefits of integrating digital technologies into English language teaching, and discusses challenges associated with the implementation of digital literacy-oriented instruction. The findings suggest that English language education can significantly contribute to the development of learners’ digital competencies while simultaneously enhancing language proficiency, critical thinking, and lifelong learning skills.
