Abstract

Sterile filtration is a critical process in the preparation of ophthalmic solutions, particularly eye drops, ensuring microbiological safety without compromising the chemical stability of active pharmaceutical ingredients. Eye drops are highly sensitive to microbial contamination due to direct contact with ocular tissues, and even minor contamination can lead to severe inflammatory reactions or infections. This study examines the theoretical principles, technological implementation, and impact of sterile filtration on product quality, safety, and therapeutic efficacy. The filtration process effectively removes microorganisms and particulate matter while preserving the physicochemical properties of the solution. Adherence to aseptic techniques, validated equipment, and international standards is essential for producing safe and effective ophthalmic preparations. The findings highlight the indispensable role of sterile filtration in modern pharmaceutical manufacturing of eye drops.
